Graduate or Experienced Textile / Surface Pattern Designer Wanted

 

For a client based in Mumbai, India – one of the Top Furnishing Fabric Mills in the World supplying all the major brands in the UK – who is offering 3 UK designers the opportunity of a 9 Months to 1 year contract to work  in the Design Studio at his mill from end Jan 2012 – this can be extended as many designers do – if you like the work and they like you. You will be creating new designs and colourways and will be given UK clients to look after ie working to briefs given by customers such as Harlequin and Prestigious and you will be communicating directly with the design teams of these major UK companies.

Over the last 7 years Diane Harding has sent many graduates to India – so you can talk to them about their experiences before you decide to take the job.  Many of them have returned to the UK and with this experience on their CV have found excellent design jobs within the industry for example for Romo & Harlequin.

All that is required is that you have a degree in Surface Pattern, Weave, Embroidery or Print design with excellent drawing skills.

First interviews will take place with myself during December and early January.

The shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by the client on Tuesday 17 January in Milton Keynes and the final 3 designers will travel out to India to join the other UK designers who have been working with the mill for several months – asap after that  (end Jan / beg Feb 2012)  at a time that is convenient for all parties. 

Information

  • The mill produces approx. 1 million metres per month.
  • 200,000m embroidered fabrics
  • 450k jacquard fabrics
  • Balance plains /dobbys / textures / digital prints
  • They currently have a team of 21 designers (15 of which speak excellent English)
  • There are currently 6 UK graduates working at the mill – you will be able to email and converse with them before you agree to a 2nd interview.
  • They use the EAT CAD SYSTEM – 17 design computers
  • Happy for you to use photoshop or illustrator
  • The company will arrange and pay for all your travelling expenses including the return flights along with the Visa and Insurance.
  • You will work with other UK graduates and travel out together – so you have some company
  • You will stay in a large 4 bedroomed high quality apartment with dining, kitchen, lounge facilities with 3 other graduates from the UK . You will have your own bedroom with an ensuite bathroom.  This is all paid for by the company.
  • You will be paid £600 per month – if a new graduate per month – which will give you a very comfortable living in India.
  • If you have more than 2 years design experience with a well known furnishing brand you could earn as much as £2000 per month.
  • You will work 6 days a week Monday – Saturday (10am – 7pm with one hour break) ** sometimes when leading up to an exhibition you will be expected to work late into the evening to hit deadlines.
  • You will receive 1 Saturday off a month as holiday as well as any Indian religious holidays.
  • You will receive 1 week – unpaid holiday for every 6 months you work.
  • The company will pay for one return flight to the UK after you have worked for 6 months – so you can spend your holiday in the UK if you wish.
