Oscha Slings Ltd – Loanhead EH20

Oscha Slings is a small, growing business based in Loanhead, near Edinburgh. They produce  baby slings with a focus on comfort and elegance. They are an ethical company, using natural and organic yarns, existing to promote the benefits of baby carrying and child development. They are looking for a weave designer / product developer to join the friendly, fast-paced and adaptable team.

Oscha Slings are seeking a creative person with strong technical knowledge and experience. The applicant must have a detailed working knowledge of jacquard and dobby loom weave as well as yarn counts and compositions. You will work with their Mill to develop new, exciting products and be part of the Design, Sales & Marketing team, working together to develop innovative seasonal products in-line with customer needs.You will create beautiful designs to add to the range, meeting their strong company aesthetic, and showcasing your weave knowledge.

The successful applicant will be responsible for placing orders with their suppliers and ensuring all details are accurate, liaising with their Manufacturing department to ensure that the correct products are received and labeled accordingly.

Responsibilities
Product development including liaising with suppliers and Sales/Marketing
Responsible for developing, checking, amending and adapting new and existing designs for sampling and production
Placing accurate orders with our suppliers and recording them for Sales/Marketing and Manufacturing
Work with the Seasonal Planning Team to achieve overall creative and business objectives. Including researching seasonal trends, themes, color, raw materials, texture weave techniques and yarns. Create mood boards, fabric swatches and fabric collections and trend predictions.
Approving colour submits
Manage database of designs
Working with custom preorder groups to develop their orders and place them as well as developing our custom preorder system
Travel for trade exhibitions, design research, and to supervise product development.

Required Skills
Minimum – degree or equivalent with a focus on weave plus at least 3 years experience
Highly skilled in InDesign, Photoshop & Illustrator
High degree of knowledge of fabric/yarn construction and jacquard/dobby loom weave
Skilled in developing designs from sketch through to final product and putting into repeat
Creative, intuitive, reactive to customer needs
Love of developing ideas as part of a team
Exceptional communication skills; capable of working well with other teams and building productive relationships
Keen eye for detail and colour
Proven knowledge and track record of translating trends into successful designs with a focus on innovative weave techniques
React quickly to mid season changes and developments whilst ensuring everything you produce reflects the Oscha brand values and design standards
A desire to make product the best it can be
Previous exposure of the design process working from trend research, to design development to product launch
Proven ability to research and apply market/fashion trend information
Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Detail oriented, good follow through
Strong organizational, communication and written skills
Must be able to prioritise and manage workflow
