In this two day workshop students will learn the basic weave techniques used to create a tapestry, these include plain weave, soft diagonals, hatching, blending and shaping.

The course will start with a demonstration of the warping-up process and participants will get experience of this process before starting to weave. By the end of the workshop participants will take home a completed tapestry.

There will be some one to one tuition during the two day workshop which is suitable for beginners – intermediate levels. Time: 11.00am – 4pm each day, this workshop requires a minimum of five students to run.

This two day workshop is a general tapestry class, investigating project based work. There will be a clear structure to the course which will enable participants to gain confidence with the art of tapestry and increase their current knowledge of the medium. The workshop is suitable for all levels.

Less experienced participants can learn the basics, or bring a proposed new project to investigate, discuss and work on ideas with the tutor’s advise. Students who have existing tapestry projects on a tapestry frame are also welcome to bring these to the workshop for advise and dialogue.

There will be some one to one tuition during the workshop. This workshop requires a minimum number of students to run.

Background: Established in 2013 Weftfaced is a textile based enterprise supporting and promoting the art of textiles and hand-made tapestry weaving. It is the UK’s newest Tapestry Workshop. The founder of Weftfaced is Caron Penney. Caron has been working in tapestry design and production for the past twenty years. She is a Master Weaver, skilled colourists and dyer of worsted wools.

Caron Penney has been a weaver at the West Dean Tapestry Studio since 1993, and from 2009 – 2013 she was the Studio Director. In 2011 Caron worked with artist Tracey Emin to create Black Cat tapestry and Keeping you in Mind tapestry, the latter is part of the Vanishing Lake series of tapestries which were exhibited at the Turner Contemporary in 2012.
